On 9th November 2013, my dearest cousin.. Got hitched! We're the same age and almost grew up together (minus the whole boarding school or study abroad periods). It was quite emotional although I did not cry until the reception that night. Seeing her walking down that aisle with her now husband just got to me.. Boy, she's married now!
I was busy trying to not let us both laugh during the nikah! Haha we're such a laid back 'pacat' kinda family. I'm not sure if everyone else can understand the kind of relationships we have amongst each other, aunties uncles included. Yes, respect is given when it is due.. But at the same time we all just get crazy and sakat around.
We always wondered who would be the lucky guy that would get her to say 'yes'. She is, well sought after by everyone. But being a well independent woman, a butterfly in her own right.. Being in a committed relationship is just not the norm. When she finally told me she was getting married. I was really interested to know who is this genius who managed to convince this girl, who has been flying around the globe (she is an Emirates cabin crew), truly independent, non-committal girl to want to move back to Malaysia and settle down.. And most importantly.. Have a 9-5 job! He is, a true magician!
The wedding as a whole is truly unique. Centered around her life in the sky.. Everything was turned into a 'flight', to be remembered. We even have our own cabin crews and pilots to welcome the bride. The emcee'ing was that close to inflight announcements, it's just superbly interesting.
The best thing? Everything was in-house. From the planning to the execution was all done by the bride, best friends and family members. No wedding planner hired.
Everyone, including this little one.. Had a blast! Apparently, I have super talented cousins who took the stage and performed.. Yeah, enough to assure Ninie (the bride) and I, that out of all our cousins.. We're probably the only ones who can't sing to save our lives. Pfft stress! All this wedding affair reminded me how I have not been spending enough time with my side of the family.. I was somehow reminiscing through out the entire wedding, good times.
Ah well, better late than never!
