Today I received the weirdest phone call.. But before I get to that, let me tell you how it all started..
*************Sometime in 2007*****************
There was an event at the office. It's a relatively big event I guess because all the directors and representatives from other subsidiary companies were there. All the who's who of the company gathered at the 3rd Floor, including a few employees (us the juniors la of course) to fill in the space. There was a talk or something, I think.
After the event, everyone was just scattering around trying to get out of the building. Myself, and two other colleagues took the lift to the basement to go somewhere. On the lift, we met this one nice lady. When the lift stopped at the basement, she looked confused. So I asked her what was wrong.. she couldn't find her way around. I told her she was at the wrong floor yada yada yada.. and during the lift ride to the correct floor, we got to talking a bit. She asked me whether I was new, yes I was. Which department bla3. At the time, I figured that she must be some outsider from another company who joined the event just now.. So I didn't think much about it..
**************This morning*********************
Her: Hello is this [my full name]?
Me: Ye saye [My normal response when receiving a call from someone who I know is from Malaysia and sounds a bit formal]
Her: Hi, this is ..... [name I shall not mention here sbb agak mudah di'google olehnya], I'm the nominee director of [Bloody hell, the company I worked with!]. Do you remember me? We met in the lift & at the lobby 2 years ago.
Me: [Still confused BUT could remember YET couldnt believe it because it was definitely A TOO BRIEF A MEETING to remember someone, especially an insignificant little nobody like me!] Umm, yes! Hi! How Ru?
Her: I'm fine bla3... Am in London bla3... Meet for lunch?
Me: YES!
***********************************************
Yeah, I've never felt so flattered in my whole life! She could have just easily call up and meet those who are in the Company's London office.. But she actually tracked down my number, although at that time she couldnt remember my name.. All she recalled was that my name sounds a bit unusual [yeah, SO UNUSUAL!]. His son was with her as well and all in all, it was definitely a good lunch! Had so much fun.
I did mention how suprised I was to be receiving a call from her. She just laughed and said that she suddenly thought of me before coming here. Her son said that "it's not everyday that you get a call from your company's director!". COULDN'T AGREE MORE!
Lesson learned: Even the briefiest moment can have an impact on your life, and unto others. So cherish them, remember them.. You'll never know when that 'past' might catch up to you.. This time, it was definitely a good 'past' :) :)
