Common ground

So typical. I talked about new year's resolution, how I wanted to write more etc.. Only to end up being on hiatus for a week! Anti-climax sket kan? Oh well, I was actually occupied with Aaron. He was down with a viral infection the whole week! For his age, it is quite crucial that I keep a close watch on his temperature as it goes up and down in minutes! And at 39 degrees at one point? Needless to say, I've been up almost all night the whole week! It's a wonder that I can still function at work and still DO work. Dah name pun MC 2 weeks haritu. Nak mampus x catch up keje? Pffftttt...

So tale of hiatus aside. Yesterday as I was listening to BFM i.e business radio station (don't get me started on how the channel got saved in my radio!), they were having this interview with Senator D@to @bdul Rahim R@hman, founder and chairman of one of the most successful real estate consultant companies in Malaysia.

The DJ, or host rather, asked him about how he got to the point where he is now, his journey, aspirations etc. What caught my attention was his answer to how he got into the field.

"it was by chance".

During those times just a few years after we achieved independence, for those who managed to reach the upper sixth level (in high school), will automatically receive scholalrship forms to further their studies. This was part of the government initiatives to encourage education development amongst the people. As he went through the form, all he had mind was wanting to study in...

ENGLAND!!

So naturally, he only chose subjects that would ONLY send students overseas. Hehe and long story short, that was how he was led to the education and training he needed for his successful career!

Upon hearing that, I was like "OMG!!!! Me to!!!" yeah, I didn't grow up thinking I would study law. I did go through the mahu jadi pramugari phase, mahu jadi model stage, even at one point, mahu jadi designer stage. PERASAN!

So yeah, how I ended up doing law? Ok, after PMR, upon seeing my results, my mom immediately 'imposed' her idea on me being a doctor, seeing as she didnt get to be one (got sidetracked midway u see). Me, doctor? Terus I decided on arts stream because then there will be NO POSSIBILITY for me to become a doctor. I know, bitter, right? Haha

So when I started form 4 in arts stream, together with my lovely other 13 classmates (yes, kami kelas yang kecil!).. my mom found out that I was doing 'ok' in add maths. When I say 'ok', I don't mean getting As all the way ok.. Unlike some geniuses I know *coughs*farah*coughs* haha. But I was managing fine i.e belum pernah fail la. And this was about 2 years after my parents got remarried. My stepfather is a mathmetician you see. A good one at that.

Haaaaaaa... Sooooo ape boleh jadi kalau maths ok??? My mom pushed the idea of becoming an actuarist... Gulp! Confirm tak ok!!! So I just shrugged the idea off and told her TALES of becoming an accountant.. Or something.. But my ultimate ambition was..

To study in the UK!! My parents studied there. Heck, I was born there! So yeah, I held on to this imaginary 'attachment' towards the uk.. Or maybe, obsession? So yeah, naturally that was how I picked my subjects in the scholarship forms...

I applied only those that would SOMEHOW lead me to the UK. And seeing as I lacked direction, different forms had different degree choices, seriously! Alhamdulillah, to this date, I am still thankful for the path He had chosen for me (without much research on my part la kan!). I am thankful that I get to study in the UK, and am definitely loving the choice of career.

Somehow,someday.. I hope to be able to be INVITED as a guest on BFM radio station, and tell MY tale.. And hopefully remember to relate it back to Dato. Hahaha... Harapan semata-mata.. He's almost freakin' 70 years old ok, with a string of companies under his name. Me?

Merely a business card with my name? Cehhh...
