What's the worst thing that could happen when you're in the midst of BAKING!!!!
My mixer died on me! It died! Dead! Tak berpusing! Motor senyap! Dina had a theory. Maybe it 'merajuk' because as of late I've been talking so much about buying a new mixer a.k.a kitchenaid or the kenwood titanium.. And when I say 'so much', I mean almost everyday!
Before the drama, here's the 'result', cooling on the rack.
It was Jid's birthday. I was so semangat to bake and since I just bought em' silicone cases from Daiso at RM5 each, I figured this would be a great way to use them for my layered cake. At first I wanted red velvet.. but then again, decided on colors instead :) It was supposed to represent the colors used for her gifts... i.e turqoise, white and a bit of red. However, I had 4 layers... So.... I just belasah and added an extra color.
These are leftover batter made into bite sized cupcakes because I KNOW a certain someone would want one ;) Ignore the ugly un'iced' cuppies. I didn't properly distribute the colors evenly as I was out of small ziplock bags for the batter. So all colors were sort of spooned into the cupcake cases. There are even 3 cupcakes with only ONE color in them! Try and spot em'!
You gotta love filtered phone cameras ;)
Ok, so after I've neatly placed them on the counter, admired them. Washed up. Had a little breakfast. I started assembling my ingredients for the cream cheese frosting.... Lo and behold, my mixer doesn't work. I switched it off and on... Silence..
I already had my butter and cream cheese in the mixing bowl. My icing sugar sifted. My excitedness to try a new method of making cream cheese frosting and BOOM! Anti-climax betula la wehhhhh!!!
So as I was already late (I prefer to bake when the baby boy is asleep) and he's due to wake up any moment then, I rushed to my in-laws to borrow my mil's trustee old mixer. Apparently, this unit has been in the family for years! And mine? Only since 1st year london. EPIC FAIL!
All dramas aside, all in all I was happy with the end result. Although, obviously I STILL NEED much help in the decorating area. Sigh, tgk youtube videos pun still tak hebat? Pffffttt... there's always next time. I'm also happy with the frosting this time round. It's what you call a 'pipeable' consistency :)

Happy Birthday Jid! Hope you like the mini 'partay' :) I'm sure we couldn't have topped off a birthday gift like your Danial but hope you like your gifts anyway!
xx
